Our Woman in Moscow was a twisty spy story filled with American, Russian, and British spies, counterspies, and handlers. At the center are twin sisters who have been estranged for years. Ruth runs a modeling agency in New York, while Iris is married to an American diplomat. In 1948, Iris, her husband, and their children disappear.

The story moves between the two sisters’ perspectives and two timelines, gradually revealing more about their complicated relationship, Iris’s disappearance, and the world of Cold War espionage surrounding them.

The book was clearly well researched, and I enjoyed learning more about the Cambridge spy ring, which loosely inspired the story. There were plenty of twists and details to keep the mystery moving, while the relationship between the sisters gave the story an emotional layer beyond the espionage.

Overall, I enjoyed this intricate look at the people and secrets behind Cold War spying.
